The Second Falls View Bridge
Almost immediately after the collapse of the Fallsview Bridge plans were in the making for the construction of a new bridge.
This new bridge was built in record time, with only one fatality occurring during the entire construction.
This bridge would once again be tested by the Niagara’s wintry gales, however it would not be Mother Nature that would see the destruction of this new bridge within ten years of its construction….but man.
It was a time of new technology and ever changing methods of travel. Electric cars had become increasingly popular, servicing both the American and Canadian sides. Eventually bridge planners realized the need to connect the two countries via an electric trolley system. None of the existing bridges would be able to be refitted as electric cars were quite heavy and the bridges were not built to support their weight.
